Everyday we hear stories of how one person’s side hustle turned into a million dollar empire that helped them “fire their boss”.

Truth is, the concept of entrepreneur is on the rise and people are looking for ways to monetize their hobbies or even start a side gig that will help them gain freedom from the 9 to 5 grind.

The best way to go about it is to launch a store online - and ecommerce platforms like Shopify makes things easy and enable people to skip the heavy cost upfront and launch their store in 24 hours.

So today, we want to talk about Shopify. Is it really the best ecommerce platform in Malaysia?

What is Shopify?

Shopify was actually invented by two guys who wanted to create their own online store. They were frustrated with how much effort and time it took to set up their store. So when they finally launched the store, they wondered how many people had the same trouble when they wanted to launch a store online.

Fast forward, Shopify is not the global leader in storefront platform for all things ecommerce.

Is Shopify Popular in Malaysia?

These days it seems like it. Search terms related to Shopify has grown in the past year overtaking even Wix and WooCommerce who’ve had a long standing presence among ASEAN sellers.

Perhaps it’s because of Shopify’s regional presence in Singapore and Australia that has kickstarted this awareness among consumers.

In fact, even popular artist like Yuna has unofficially endorsed Shopify for it’s easy of use:

What are some good benefits of shopify?

Easy installation - A great thing about Shopify is that all of their tools are very easy to use and simple to install. Once you have installed this solution provider, you can begin creating your very first store right away. In fact, you can now launch your store in less than 24 hours.

Product management - Onee of the main things that makes Shopify stand out from other Ecommerce platforms is the fact that you can easily add new products to your store without spending a lot of time. All you have to do is create a new product, upload your images and set up an affiliate account.

Reporting - It is easy to monitor your products by checking on the statistics and sales reports and you can also track the number of customers that are coming to your store every day. If you have enough traffic to your website, then you will be able to make money.

Security - As an online business owner, the one thing that you don't want to overlook or forget about is the security of your database. In order to make sure that your customers are buying from a secure source, then you will want to make sure that your customers are protected with a high level of security and this is where Shopify comes into play.

Cost effective - Shopify is also a very cost-effective solution provider. The only down side to using Shopify is that it is a subscription-based solution. If you are not ready to pay monthly subscriptions fees, then you’d want to consider hiring a developer for a lump sum payment.

What shopify plans are available?

In summary if you’re a low volume seller then a basic USD29/month would be a good bet that equates to approximately RM120/month. You’ll be billed in USD even if you’re located outside of the US - so make sure your bank knows.

Pay attention to transaction fees as well - you’ll incur transaction fees for all purchases that happen on Shopify that uses other payment providers like ipay88, Grabpay etc. Shopify claims that the transaction fees it so cater for the integration cost that happens between Shopify and other vendors. The amount of transaction fees also reduces by the type of plan you extract.

Woocommerce vs Shopify?

Based on my personal experience - Shopify’s customer support is outstanding - trust me I don’t use that term lightly. It’s 24/7 and you can just chat them. Also they are super helpful - I was told only the best get to be their “guru”.

Hosting - with Shopify you don’t need to worry about hosting, security and maintenance, it’ all done for you. Just focus on creating and marketing your products online.

Woo commerce on the other hand - is a free plugin to turn wordpress into an online store. It’s pretty much free making it the best choice for people.

Gotta pay up - for hosting and security. Keep that in mind.

In conclusion

Shopify is by far the best Ecommerce platform in Malaysia and you will find a great deal of benefits by using them. You will be able to create your very own Ecommerce website and store with ease, security, reliability, convenience, and speed.
